For our third year running, our Christmas coffee comes from Huehuetenango in Guatemala. San Antonio Huista brings the comforting sweetness we look for at this time of year, with notes of candied apple, almond fingers and jasmine adding a delicate floral lift to the festive cup.

This washed coffee is grown at 1,550–1,650 metres above sea level by producers in the San Antonio Huista area. Caturra, Catuai and Bourbon varieties grow beneath indigenous Gravilea and Chalun trees, alongside fruit trees. This shade supports biodiversity within the coffee-growing plots.

The contributing producers deliver their coffee to La Central Bodega in San Antonio Huista town, where it is cleaned and winnowed before being sent to La Central dry mill near Guatemala City.

Huehuetenango is one of the world’s best-known coffee-growing regions. Its high altitude and predictable weather benefit from cool air travelling from the nearby Sierra de los Cuchumatanes and warm air from Mexico’s Plains of Tehuantepec. It’s a region we return to for coffees that balance seasonal comfort with the complexity we enjoy throughout the year.
