It's a great time of year to sip on a delicate floral washed coffee from the Guji zone - this year's Gerba Dogo is another gem from one of our favourite origins.
This coffee hails from the Gerba dry processing station set up by Shonora family in the Gerba Dogo kebele, situated within the woreda of Bule Hora. The station was set up in 1996. Shonora Gata had been working with his children in coffee for four years at that stage and his family has continued work in the industry to the point where his children, engineering graduates Adugna and Morkata Shonora, founded an export company in 2018.
This coffee is collected from family member farms and other smallholder farmers in Gerba Dogo. The farmers in this kebele use the fallen leaves from trees to make organic compost which is used in lieu of chemicals to help fertilise the soil. After 40 years in the business, the Shonora family now works with 150 farmers from the Guji zone.
This is coffee grown with intention. And it tastes like it.
