Back (and bigger) than ever!

We’re dead excited to share our latest Maragogype - a variety maybe best known as a parent of the similarly gigantic Pacamara - but one with its own reputation for quality as well as size.  We rarely see them offered these days due to their susceptibility to disease and low yield so to find such a great example on a cupping table recently we had no choice but to grab it!

Grown by Olman Valladarez, on a farm which has beeen in the family 60 years.  He has competed in the Cup of Excellence every year since 2014 and has a focus on unusual varieties such as Maracaturra, Maragogype, Marsellesa and Java.

There is dense forest on the farm and this is over 90% natiive trees including Búcaro, Liquidambar, Guaba and, Bamboo.  In addition to his work on varities, Olman is working on the reduction of chemical inputs in agriculture to help improve forest and water in the area.

This coffee is grown in sandy soil and mostly under shade. Olman is one of the last producers in this area to work with tricky varieties like Marogogype and we salute his efforts to bring this special coffee to us as well as a more positive impact to his surrounding environment!

These truly are, in the words of one Cloud Picker alumnus, "Big-ass beans..."!
