Cloud Picker is becoming B Corp certified!

We set our mind on becoming B Corp certified this year - we know, we know! We started this process at the end of 2022 with the idea that we would be certified in 2023, but it turns out there are a lot more intricate details involved and we may have been a little too ambitious…just a little. 

Still, we are excited about becoming a certified B Corporation and joining the global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. B Corp believes that business should create value for all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and we could not agree more. Business should be a force for good. 

Creating a positive impact through all facets of our business has always been at the core of Cloud Picker. By becoming B Corp certified we will be able to demonstrate the value we create, and gain insight in how we can continue to improve. To create economic systems change, businesses need comprehensive, credible and comparable impact standards. And unlike other certifications for businesses, B Corp measures a company’s entire social and environmental impact.

In order to become B Corp certified, a business must meet high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and greenhouse gas emissions. 

There are 5 categories that the B Impact Assessment evaluates and to be eligible for certification a business has to gain more than 80 points across all these categories. It is thus not possible to be very good at creating a social impact, but leave the environmental impact hanging. 

The categories are:

Governance
A company’s overall mission, ethics, accountability, transparency and how they build their vision and values into their bylaws. 

Workers
A company’s efforts to create positive impacts for their workforce, for example through employee compensation, benefits, training and having good work conditions.

Customers
How a company serves their customers, offering products or services that support the greater good. 

Environment
How a company works towards a more sustainable and regenerative planet by reducing their footprint and putting their impact on the air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity first in their business practices. This part of the assessment explores the impact of a company’s facilities by assessing the emissions they emit, the resources they use and the environmental impact of their supply chain.

Community
How a business contributes to the economic and social well-being of the communities in which they operate. For example by exploring initiatives and policies directed at community impact, improving supplier relations and engaging in charitable giving. 

B Corp certification is thus a holistic certification that demonstrates that we live up to stringent standards regarding economic, social and environmental sustainability. Because the assessment touches upon every aspect of our business it is a lot of work to satisfy all the conditions, but we are committed to becoming a B Corporation. Being a purpose and stakeholder-driven company is a commitment that does not solely show from our practices, but will also be encoded legally by changing our corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders.

We are excited to be progressing on this journey and join the Irish B Corp Movement. Ireland currently counts 33 Irish B Corp Certified companies, with many more, like Cloud Picker, in the process of certification. This means that Ireland is home to one of the fastest-growing B Corp communities!
