Ethiopia | Kebede Wako
Fruit-forward, complex and alive! This is how we describe our first offering from Kebede Wako in the coffee dense region of Yirgacheffe.
This lovely Ethiopian natural coffee is the product of Kebede Wako and his family. It can be structurally challenging to connect with individual farmers in Ethiopia and this challenge is, as with many supply chain issues, most keenly felt at the producer end of things.
Kebede got an export license to sell his coffee directly to international buyers in 2018 but struggled to secure any lasting connections and had to move to selling to the internal market for a few years as a result. This is his second attempt to showcase his coffee to the world and we're privileged to be able to celebrate his family's hard work!
With an unusually large farm for this area, 16.45 hectares, Kebede is able to use 130 drying beds to dry his coffee on the farm. These coffee cherries are typically turned six times a day to ensure even drying and are normally left lying between 2 and 3 weeks to dry. The drying beds are covered to protect from rain and cold night-time temperatures.
We're backing Kebede Wako!
