This is our first Nyeri coffee for a little while and how we've missed those jammy tones!

The Kiandu Factory was established in 1970 by the Tetu Coffee Growers Cooperative. In 1989 it became merged to the Mutheka Farmers Cooperative Society and in 2011 set out its own society called Kiandu.

Farmers have access to financing for school fees and farm needs with an emergency fund also available. The society also has farmer training at the heart of its mission and provides access to learning materials on sustainable farmining methods.  The factory pays particular attention to its waste water and has set up waste water pits away from water sources to help avoid any negative impact on the local drinking water.

When cherries are delivered to the factory, they first undergo dry fermentation in tanks for 18-24 hours to break down the mucilage. They then pass through washing channels to remove pulp and after an overnight soak, they are laid out on raised tables and dried for 7-15 days.

This coffee reminds us why we keep coming back to Nyeri!
